About

Hello and welcome to my blog!

My name is Laura Beth, I’m 33 and a progressive Christian minister. I like to think of myself as a liberal person who is very ecumenical; I respect the many ways people come to know the creator. I am also very centered on equality (especially LGBTQ equality). I have many friends who have felt and still feel that church is not a place for them. Please know you are always welcome, just as you are, in the United Church of Christ. It’s a wonderful, inclusive faith community. Explore more at www.ucc.org

I grew up in Minnesota, did a residency for ministry in Boston, but the Spirit has taken me back to the wild prairies of South Dakota. I am a collector of stories and am currently in school for master’s in clinical mental health counseling, which I think pairs well with ministry.

In my ministry, I feel called to be with the people who are on the fringes of society, those outside of the church. As Sarah Bessey wrote in her book Jesus Feminist, “I want to be outside with the misfits, with the rebels, the dreamers, second-chance givers, the radical grace lavishers, the ones with arms wide open, the courageously vulnerable.” I find so much truth when we are vulnerable, and I also find a lot of room for realness, love, and grace.

I have met so many people that I love here, and have found my own little slice of diversity within this city that is surrounded by farming communities and Hutterite colonies. I hope to continue writing and continue ministering to the hearts of people near and far.

    1. I gave it as a sermon in January– so it should be in January 2013 if you click to the right, or keep scrolling down the blog and click “show more” or whatever the option is. If you look even further back, I have a video blog on it posted in 2012 called “It Changed my Life” somewhere in either October or November 2012. Thanks Carla!
